HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 15
(By Delegates Flanigan, McGraw, Yeager,
Mahan, Kominar, Wright, Sparks, Thompson,
Compton, Osborne, H. White, Damron and Heck)
Urging our congressional delegation to include in new federal
highway legislation funding for the I-73, Coalfields
Expressway, Shawnee Parkway, and State Route 10 highway
projects in southern West Virginia.
Whereas, There is a long-term need in southern West Virginia
for world class transportation infrastructure, and the
construction of the I-73, Coalfields Expressway, Shawnee Parkway
and State Route 10 highway projects in southern West Virginia
will help address those needs; and
Whereas,
Business and services to southern West Virginia will
increase because of the increased traffic flow resulting from the
construction of these highways; and
Whereas, The growth potential for southern West Virginia
will be greatly increased because the vast productive capacity of
this area will be reached by West Virginia's timber and
extractive industries; other West Virginia industries will be
served by allowing economical access to the wealthy markets as
close as two hundred fifty miles away, and tourism will be served by the influx of visitors from those markets;
therefore, be it
Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That our state's congressional delegation is urged to
include in new federal highway legislation funding for the I-73,
Coalfields Expressway, Shawnee Parkway and State Route 10
highway projects in southern West Virginia;
and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the House is hereby
directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the members of
the West Virginia congressional delegation.
